Waveshare SIM7028 NB-IoT HAT is a compact NB-IoT communication HAT designed for Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, and other host controllers that need low-power wide-area connectivity. Built around the SIM7028 module, it supports global NB-IoT bands and a wide range of IoT communication protocols including TCP, UDP, LWM2M, COAP, DTLS, HTTP(S), MQTT(S), and TLS/SSL. This makes it a strong fit for remote metering, remote monitoring, asset tracking, environmental data logging, industrial telemetry, and low-power sensor nodes.
The SIM7028 NB-IoT HAT uses a standard Raspberry Pi 40PIN GPIO layout and also provides control pins for Arduino and STM32 style hosts. With onboard Type-C debugging, USB to UART, a nano SIM slot, configurable logic level, and support for AT command control, this Waveshare NB-IoT HAT is well suited for embedded developers building low-throughput, low-delay, and low-power IoT systems.

Cloud connectivity and data visualization are key strengths of the SIM7028 NB-IoT HAT. This NB-IoT module supports lightweight telemetry and messaging workflows, and it can be used with AWS IoT Core, Alibaba Cloud IoT, and standard MQTT based services for remote device communication.
Important note: shipment and support restrictions may apply in certain regions for SIMCOM-based modules, including Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, and Syria.
Is SIM7028 NB-IoT HAT a 4G LTE Cat-4 module?
No. SIM7028 NB-IoT HAT is an NB-IoT communication HAT optimized for low-power, low-throughput IoT applications rather than high-bandwidth LTE Cat-4 networking.
What host boards can be used with this NB-IoT HAT?
The board is designed for Raspberry Pi and also works with Jetson Nano, while the exposed UART control pins make it suitable for Arduino, STM32, and ESP32 based development.
What kinds of projects suit SIM7028 NB-IoT HAT best?
This Waveshare board is best for remote monitoring, smart metering, asset tracking, industrial telemetry, and other low-power IoT systems that benefit from NB-IoT wide-area connectivity and MQTT or HTTP based cloud communication.
