Seeed Studio Grove Formaldehyde Sensor (SFA30) is a calibrated formaldehyde sensor for accurate indoor HCHO monitoring. Built around the Sensirion SFA30, this Grove module delivers low cross-sensitivity to ethanol and other interfering gases while also reporting temperature and humidity data for compensation. If you are building an indoor air quality monitor, air purifier controller, ventilation node, or smart environment logger, this HCHO sensor gives you a dependable Grove-ready path with I2C and UART support. As a Seeed Studio Grove module, it is also easy to drop into rapid prototyping workflows.

The onboard switch lets you choose the communication mode directly on the module, so the same Grove Formaldehyde Sensor can fit simple MCU projects as well as Linux-based indoor air quality monitor builds where a dedicated HCHO sensor is preferred.
For Arduino-class development, the module drops cleanly into the Grove ecosystem through a Base Shield and the Sensirion I2C SFA3X library.
For Raspberry Pi projects, you can pair this Seeed Studio HCHO sensor with the Grove Base Hat to build a compact indoor air quality monitor or smart air management node.
What does this module measure?
This formaldehyde sensor measures HCHO concentration and also reports temperature and humidity data from the integrated compensation sensor.
Is this a dedicated HCHO sensor or a general VOC sensor?
This is a dedicated HCHO sensor built around the SFA30. The Seeed Studio implementation keeps the module Grove-ready for fast integration. It is better suited to formaldehyde-focused indoor air quality monitor projects than a generic TVOC-only module.
Can I use the Grove Formaldehyde Sensor with Arduino or Raspberry Pi?
Yes. The Seeed Studio Grove Formaldehyde Sensor works well as an HCHO sensor for with Arduino-compatible boards through Base Shield V2 and with Raspberry Pi through Grove Base Hat hardware.
How do I switch between I2C and UART?
Use the onboard selector switch shown in the hardware section. Position 1 is used for UART and position 0 is used for I2C according to the official Seeed guide.
