This #6 AWG HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable is a high-performance single-conductor wire engineered specifically for impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems. Designed to withstand the unique electrochemical stresses of buried and submerged environments, it provides a rugged, reliable link between rectifiers and anodes to prevent corrosion on critical metallic infrastructure.
In cathodic protection applications, the cable must act as a primary barrier against aggressive chemicals and the corrosive gases (such as chlorine and hydrogen) generated by the protection process itself. The High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE) insulation is a specialized material that provides significantly more mechanical toughness and chemical stability than standard PVC power cables.
Electrochemical Resilience: The HMWPE jacket is designed to resist degradation from the electrolytic gases produced at the anode bed that would typically destroy standard wire insulation.
Tough Insulation: Offers elite resistance to abrasion, crushing, and environmental stress cracking, which is essential for maintaining integrity during direct burial and backfilling.
Direct Burial & Submerged Rating: Suitable for installation directly in the earth or for submersion in fresh, brackish, or salt water.
High-Purity Copper: Utilizes stranded bare copper for maximum electrical efficiency, ensuring minimal power loss over long circuit runs.
Conductor Size: #6 AWG
Conductor Material: Stranded Bare Copper
Insulation Material: High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE)
Voltage Rating: 600V
Temperature Rating: 75C (167F)
Amp Rating: 65 Amps (@ 75C)
Standard Color: Black (UV Resistant)
Approvals: ASTM D-1248, ICEA S-95-658
Pipeline Infrastructure: Primary feeder and anode lead wire for oil, gas, and water pipelines.
Storage Tank Bottoms: Connecting rectifiers to anode arrays for underground and above-ground storage tanks.
Marine Protection: Used for cathodic protection of steel pilings, piers, bulkheads, and other coastal infrastructure.
Anode Ground Beds: Ideal for deep-well and surface ground beds where chemical resistance and reliability are paramount.
Technical Note: Always verify the integrity of the insulation before burial. Even minor nicks in the HMWPE jacket can cause the copper conductor to corrode rapidly once energized, leading to total system failure. For environments with high concentrations of chlorine or hydrocarbons, a dual-insulated construction (HALAR/HMWPE) is often recommended.
